The objectives of the research are evaluate: the physical and chemical condition of the forest region of Mount Merbabu’s slopes for farmland in Sampetan village; the use of farmland in Sampetan village; the social, economic, and cultural condition in Sampetan village; and the condition of the community health components in Sampetan village.
This research used the descriptive qualitative research method. The data of the research were gathered through in-depth interview, field observation, and content analysis. The data of the research were validated by using informant review and data resource triangulation. The data of the research were analyzed by using the interactive technique of analysis comprising three components, namely: data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing.
The impacts resulted from the function transformation of the forest region of Mount Merbabu’s slopes were landslide, drought, forest fires, attack of wild animals, the decrease number of protected endangered species. The activity beneficial for the community and business world is the partnership cooperation between the producers and the farmers. The initial ground surface is bumpy. Therefore, there is a need for the cultivation of the lands so that they are ready for farming. However, this influences the vegetation of the region, and the forest region gradually decreases. Besides, the water springs within the sub-watersheds of Serang Grenjengan and Serang jaran Mati and those within the sub-area of the sub-watersheds of Serang Karangboyo and Serang Sembung lor.
